Crossfire Alumni honored by NSCAA
Meredith Teague helps lead the Falcons to National Championship win

Crossfire Alumni News

SPU and former Crossfire player Meredith Teague won the NCAA Division 2 National Championship last week in Tampa. This was the third time in four years Mere has been to the final four, but this time she helped bring home the illusive national championship. Mere was voted an ALL AMERICAN before the final four started and after the Championship she was also named NCAA Div. 2 PLAYER OF THE YEAR.
“I am very excited for and proud of Mere, she constantly worked hard at her game and kept improving every year. She was a player you could put anywhere on the field and you knew she would do well.” Said her Crossfire coach Dick McCormick.
Meredith played for Crossfire from 1997-2004 winning many championships. Her SPU coach Chuck Sekyra (who is a crossfire parent) Said “Mere is one of the best players in the country, her work rate and desire to improve left Mere with no weakness in her game. Meredith is a poster child for SPU Women’s soccer, she is a fantastic player and a wonderful person.”
Not only was Mere NCAA Player of the year, she was also Great Northern Athletic Conference (GNAC) player of the year, West Region Player of the year and has been a constant member of the all academic teams. Congratulations SPU, Chuck Sekyra and especially Meredith Teague.
Other players from Meredith’s Crossfire team include Sarah Martinez (SPU 2004-07) who was a 2007 GNAC player of the year, 2007 All American, and the all time leading goal scorer for the GNAC. Hilleary Heath and Kate Manino who played for Stanford (2005-08) who lost in the NCAA final four last weekend, and Katie Brown who won the NCAA National Championship with Portland in 2005. Congratulations to all of you!
